Thousands of WoodMaxx backhoes are in service today, and still going strong. The solid design and high quality components are unparalleled. Italian made control valves offer smooth and outstanding performance to our already robust WM-series backhoe attachments. New replaceable pivot joint bushing and an extreme duty gear pump are now standard equipment on all WoodMaxx PTO backhoe attachments. Please read below to find out more.
The WoodMaxx backhoe attachments are a perfect combination of size, weight, and power. Light enough to move around, yet strong enough to get the tough jobs done. Some backhoe attachments boost heavier weight, but heavier is not always better. Additional unnecessary weight only adds stress to the frame of your tractor. WoodMaxx WM series backhoes attachments are manufactured using heavy formed q-235 (American standard ASTM A-36) structural steel plate, the strongest plate steel available. The pieces are CNC laser cut so that they fit together perfectly, and are then precisely welded. This fact combined with the structural design allows for the perfect combination of weight and rigidity.
WoodMaxx WM-series backhoe attachments are now equipped with hydraulic control valves that are made in Italy by Hydro-control. Known for their high precision engineered control valves, Hydro-control designs and manufactures directional control valves for mobile applications and offers some of the most dependable products on the market. This is the highest quality hydraulic control valve available for a PTO backhoe attachments, and offers extremely smooth and reliable operation. Hydro-control has been involved in manufacturing hydraulic components since 1969, and has millions of products throughout the world in some of the most demanding applications. The hydraulic control valves on a backhoe attachments are the heart of the machine; this is why we chose Hydro-control. These control valves are second to none and offer extremely smooth operation for experienced operators, but are also very forgiving for novice operators.
WoodMaxx backhoe attachments are equipped with an extremely reliable one-piece gear pump made from high strength aluminum center housing and cast iron end plates. These pumps are equipped with an internal spline and are made to slide right onto the 1-3/8″ spline of your tractor. No need to add oil to these pumps since the lubrication is provided by the pumped hydraulic oils. Roller bearings and self-adjusting wear plates make these pumps far superior to any pump/gearbox combinations offered by our competitors that leak oil on the floor as soon as you disconnect the backhoe attachment from your tractor. Go ahead and compare, WoodMaxx is the only backhoe attachment manufacturer to offer such a robust pump.
Commonly called “Cat” Or “John Deere” pattern controls. WoodMaxx backhoe attachments utilize a proprietary valve system that allows the user to change control patterns between SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) Or ISO (International Organization For Standardization) with the flip of a switch. this is helpful if you are already accustomed to one pattern, or if there will be more than one operator using the same machine.
WoodMaxx WM series backhoe attachments utilize JIC (Joint Industrial Council) hose fittings and are rated for 5000 psi. For you this means that if you ever need to replace a hydraulic hose, that your local tractor supply or Napa can make hoses while you wait. JIC fittings are widely used in hydraulic fluid transfer and typically very easy to come by. No trying to chase down an adaptor because of mismatched threads. This is something that should not be overlooked when shopping for a backhoe attachment. They will all need a hose sooner or later!
WoodMaxx WM series backhoe attachments utilize a cartridge type oil filter that is positioned directly inside the hydraulic oil tank through an easy access port. Positioning the filter in this location provides for greater protection from damage and ease of accessibility. These easy to change oil filters makes servicing your WM-series backhoes attachments breeze.
WoodMaxx WM series backhoe attachments offer a superior powder coat finish that is baked onto the steel. This finish is thicker and much more durable than paint to keep your backhoe attachment free from rust and looking good for years.
The boom on our WM series WoodMaxx allows for 180 degrees of swing from one side to another. This allows you to dig into those tight spots and dump the dirt where you want.
WoodMaxx offers WM-series backhoe attachments in three sizes to accommodate almost any category 1 tractor. Our WM-6600 with a maximum digging depth of 7′, the WM-7600 with a maximum digging depth of 8′ are compatible with tractors equipped with a cat-1 three-point hitch, and the WM-8600 that offers a full 9′ digging depth is compatible with cat-1 three-point hitch and also some cat-2 three point hitches (please notice that a cat-2 top link is required to use this backhoe with a cat-2 three-point hitch. Let us know when ordering so that we can provide the correct top link).
Over time the pivot points of a backhoe will wear and require pin replacement. This is evident when the various parts that make up the boom, dipper, and bucket become loose and rattle. Due to the high load application of the pivot points, this is a common wear item for backhoes and excavators. Not only does the pin wear out, but the pin boss will also experience wear, so simply replacing the pin does not return the backhoe to its original condition. That is why WoodMaxx backhoes are manufactured with replaceable bushings that are pressed into the pin bosses. So when the time comes to replace the pins, you can also replace the bushings. This will return your backhoe to its former glory… You are spending a lot of money on an implement so this is a very important feature for sure. Without replaceable bushings there is no way to return the backhoe to its original condition and you will have to simply deal with a sloppy boom. This feature is usually reserved for standalone backhoes and excavators, but is standard equipment with any WoodMaxx PTO backhoe attachment. Additionally, WoodMaxx is the only manufacturer of PTO backhoes that offers this option, and an option that should not be overlooked when shopping for a backhoe attachment.
The grapple thumb is incredibly handy for picking up rocks, tree limbs, and brush. The mechanical thumb requires the operator to position the thumb by lowering and inserting a pin to secure the thumb. The hydraulic thumb is simply adjusted from the operator’s seat. The mechanical thumb is also an available option.
Removable/replaceable rubber street pads on the stabilizer legs help reduce damage to the lawn, blacktop, and concrete. Standard equipment on WoodMaxx backhoe attachments.
All of our WoodMaxx backhoe attachments for sale are equipped with a self-contained hydraulic pump and tank. No need for hydraulics from your tractor. This design is superior because it ensures the proper flow and pressure are achieved at 540 RPM PTO speed. This ensures that the hydraulic valves operate smoothly for the operator. Since all tractors put out different hydraulic flow and pressure, it is almost impossible to match a backhoe attachment to a tractor correctly. Over flow and pressure, or under flow and pressure is almost always encountered. This is not a problem with the WoodMaxx WM-series backhoe attachment. Also, the hydraulic pump mounts directly to the PTO spline of any category I tractor. No PTO shaft means no shaft sizing required, and no possibility of the shaft binding or jamming. This design also makes mating the backhoe attachment to the tractor easier, just attach the pump to the PTO, adjust the backhoe attachment height using the support legs and boom, back the tractor in, and attach the pins. This is not possible with backhoes that utilize a PTO shaft to power the pump.
At WoodMaxx our service department is staffed with professional certified technicians that inspect each machine before it is shipped. This ensures that you get a trouble free machine from the get go. When you need technical help or parts, our courteous staff can help you get what you need from our fully stocked warehouse.

My 7600 backhoe is one of three different items I’ve bought from Wood Maxx …..well built and they are quick to respond if you have any problems or questions…….can’t say enough good about the backhoe, snow blower or pto wood chipper that I bought from them…….all vey good items…thanks for everything…..
Waited for them to come back in stock and called the minute I got my notification! WM7600, mechanical thumb and 9″ and 15″ buckets. Installed on Massey Ferguson TO35 (1959). Install took a bit of fiddling, but so far I’m delighted with performance. My tractor front end could use a couple hundred extra pounds of ballast, when I figure out a way to add easily removable weight. Install instructions are crystal clear. I used a 4 1/2″ dowel to hold the “spacer” in place while attaching the top bar to the backhoe. Not enough room to get my hand up in there. 1 1/4″ impact driver socket worked fine to tighten top bar hardware. Dug up a few small stumps so far. Neighbors both have long utility trenches to dig and I have a small pond to work on, once the N. Texas weather abates. Been over 100F every day for about a month, and it’s only mid-July. Perhaps a shade umbrella would be nice first accessory?
I called and spoke with someone who advised me about the Backhoe that I wanted to buy, I didn’t know which one I could use on my New Holland tractor, I wanted the Wm-7600 and he advised me that it would work on my Tractor. I wanted the Grab Thumb and a 12″ Bucket. I wanted a PTO pump and the PTO shaft extender which made it a lot easier to put the pump on. The backhoe arrived on time as noted and took me about 4 hours to put it on my tractor, since I had to take off my Drag Box. Everything went on as stated in the Manual, the only trouble I had was with the top link getting the 2 joint plates, but once I got them Align, all the bolts when in as shown. After putting in the Hydraulic oil, everything worked great. I don’t like reading Manuals but the guy I spoke with said that it would good together faster….and it did thanks… Just playing with it, It will do the thing I want to get done.
Tanks again Rich Alves, Nevada I took a couple photos,
I liked how easy the installation was, everything was clearly wrote out in the instructions. The hydraulic hoses are mostly JIC connections on the cylinders but the hose ends at the valve appear to be banjo which isn’t as common in case of a damaged hose. The thumb and 15” bucket is a nice touch of add on, I see this unit holding up well.
Nice backhoe for the money. Put it on a Ford 55 hp tractor. I mostly use it for drainage ditches, and it works great with the 15″ bucket.

I purchased a WM8H chipper in March of 2022 and to date I have about 20 hours on the chipper. My Kubota L3901 tractor hardly knows the chipper is running.
I have used manual feed chippers before and am extremely happy with the ease the hydraulic feed pulls in all shapes and types of wood and the comfortable height of the infeed.
I am impressed at the ease at which the chipper chews thru all the soft wood I have feed into it. Slowing the feed, a bit, and it does the same on the hard wood I have chipped though it, most of the larger branches are used for firewood. It is making easy work of the smaller standing dead wood I have cut down. I have also cleaned up many piles of dried branches around my property, vastly improving the lawn edge esthetics and wood lot.
I have set the chipper in place and attached my sons Kubota BX tractor to run the chipper, then gather brush with the L to bring it to the chipper. The BX will run it just fine with a shortened PTO shaft but will not lift the chipper on the 3-point.
It’s an awesome chipper and a great addition to my equipment. Will help maintain our property.
Just recently received my new MX8600 that I have paired with my Kubota LX2610 compact tractor. We have 20+ acres of 100+ year old growth forest on a small lake in Newaygo, Michigan. We need to do a lot of floor clearing and are building chip covered paths through the woods.
Tractor had no problem taking the unit from the tractor trailer. Rear tires of the tractor are loaded and I had a box blade attached. LX2610 lift capacity is a little more than 1k lbs so with the pallet forks wa probably close to the limit. I was impressed with the full enclosure wood pallet packaging with keyed edges although ABF roughed it up a bit and one side panel keys were broken and the panel dislodged. Fortunately no damage to the contents. I would suggest running bands both ways to hold damage panels in place,
Assembly required was straight forward, took about three hours including shortening the very high quality PTO shaft supplied. I did spend the $10 on the printed manual but honestly think it should have been part of the package for a machine of this caliber/cost. I also went ahead and got the oil and a full maintenance kit delivered with the unit. Would have probably added the 3-point quick attach if it was in stock.
After a little tweaking on the cable that controls the hydraulic motor I started with running some 3″ pine through. Very happy with the automatic feed, well worth the extra $ imho! At first the forward/reverse mechanism would not hold position but with a little tightening of the bolts this was easily rectified.
In the first go we covered about 50-60′ of trail without a hickup…..as long as you don’t count me running the tractor out of gas 🙂
Quite pleased so far! Will try to update after we get the first leg of the tail in which will be 2-3k feet long!
I would say you will NOT regret getting this chipper! (MX-8500G+) It chips fast. Almost faster than you can feed it. It could easy handle two people taking turns feeding it. I was a bit leery of the self feeder roller. I was thinking it was just a useless gimmick, but it does really work! 98% of the time it self pulls the entire branch into itself. You do not need to continually push the branches into the chipper. Never had it jam. Works much better than I expected. It will definitely chip at least 3-4″ stuff, anything bigger goes to my fireplace. The tractor I used with this chipper is a JD 1025r. Do yourself a big favor and do not even consider any of those cheap china made chippers!!! I did have an issue under warranty and they definitely stand behind there product! Do you think you will ever get a warranty repair/replacement from China – really? do you still believe in Santa Claus???
Picked up the MX-8600 for my MF GC 1725M on Friday. Guys were great and Kyle had me loaded up in no time. Got home and could not lift the crate out of my truck (I had forks on my bucket and it was just a bit too much even with 250 Lbs of ballast on the back. I took apart the packing crate (it is going to make a great fort for the grand kids) and removed all loose boxes and every thing else that came off easy. I was just able to lift it and get it to the ground safe (in hindsight I should have ditched the forks and just used a chain and my bucket hooks). Assembly took me about 4 hours total (including cutting down the driveshaft with a hacksaw). After purging the air and some fine adjustments of the feed rate bar and cable I had the machine running perfect. Like every one else anything bigger than 3 to 4 inches is fire wood but this thing blasted thru a ton of winter storm damaged maple, walnut, cottonwood, pine, and cherry. It never clogged once and I only had to trim out a few Y’s (like 6 total). I found that the chipper worked great on a setting of 4 for 95% of my branches. I slowed it for a couple 5 inchers, and sped it up for some leaves and small twig piles that accumulated. I even fed it a 3 inch round 50 foot long wild grape vine with zero issues. I am just amazed at how well this works. My last chipper was an original Troy built Tomahawk 8hp that would beat the daylights out of my body trying to feed it. I chipped more in 3 hours with the MX than I could in 16 hours of brutal weekend chipping with the Troy built. Even my wife was impressed. I worked 1/2 days on Saturday and all my off Fridays (we get every other Friday off) from January thru the middle of April to purchase this and I consider it money well invested. My tractor handles it like a dream and the chipper just chews up everything I throw at it. I even used the large cardboard box from the infeed chute to make a highside for my little garden cart that I pull with my riding mower. I just pull up next to the chipper, adjust the chute, and blow the chips into the cart. Once its full I throttle down, kill the PTO and go dump the chips. Thank you WOODMAXX for building such and amazing and well engineered product that is not only cleaning up my yard, and property, but saving me a lot of muscle pain and suffering.
