DISCLAIMER: The Snowbear SB-72 PTO Snow Blower features a white auger, replacing the previous yellow auger from the WoodMaxx version. This is the only visual change; all other specifications and performance features remain unchanged.
Designed in Buffalo, New York, where managing heavy snowfall is a necessity, the Snowbear series snow blowers provide an ideal combination of size, weight, and power. Constructed with heavy-duty Q-235 structural steel in line with ASTM A-36 standards, each part is CNC laser-cut for precise assembly and expertly welded for durability. This robust steel design, along with marine-grade stainless steel hardware, ensures protection against corrosion from harsh, salty winter conditions. These snow blowers are built to endure and deliver exceptional performance.
The Snowbear SB-72 PTO snow blower offers a 72” cutting width. When selecting a PTO snow blower, it’s generally wise to choose one that’s as wide as the rear tires of your tractor. If you’re unsure about your tractor’s track width, refer to tractordata.com for guidance.
Our SB-72 model features a cutting height of 27 inches, making it ready to tackle even deep snowfalls.
The Snowbear PTO snow blowers come with a sturdy 3/16″ (4.8mm) AR400 tempered alloy steel, 17.5-inch serrated auger. This design prevents damage when dealing with frozen snow piles. At the core of the auger, we’ve integrated a heavy-duty 2-7/8″ (70mm) tube to ensure the auger stays true and doesn’t deform. This feature allows the blower to effectively chop and pull in frozen snow. Additionally, the auger is fitted with a quick-change shear bolt to protect the drivetrain in case of a jam.
The Snowbear SB-72 PTO snow blower is equipped with a 24-inch diameter, 4-blade open center cupped fan. With a blade tip speed of 3,393 ft./min and a fan depth of 6.75 inches, it’s built for heavy snow removal. The cupped blades propel snow outward, clearing the housing efficiently. Made from 5/16″ (8mm) steel and weighing 74 lbs, the fan is tough enough to handle ice chunks without damage. These fans are heavy-duty, acting as a flywheel to maintain momentum through heavy snow. Snowbear fans are dynamically balanced for smooth operation and extended bearing life, making them highly efficient in moving and discharging snow.
At the heart of the Snowbear snow blowers is a right-angle oil bath gear box. Designed for durability, this sealed cast iron gear box houses precision-machined bevel gears, bathed in oil during operation for long-lasting performance.
The power transfer from the gear box to the auger is handled by a heavy-duty #60 chain and sprocket system, complete with an easy-to-adjust chain tensioning mechanism. This design ensures the correct auger-to-fan speed ratio, boosts torque, and simplifies maintenance.
Snowbear SB-series PTO snow blowers come with a rugged 1/8″ (3mm) thick, 9-inch diameter steel discharge chute, lined with high-density polyethylene to keep snow moving and prevent clogs. The large diameter allows snow to exit the fan housing easily, while the arched design maximizes snow-throwing distance.
The Snowbear PTO snow blowers feature a unique mechanical crank with a positive gear and pinion design for chute rotation. Unlike worm gear systems that slip and require multiple cranks to rotate 180 degrees, the Snowbear system requires only 3 cranks. Supported by 4 roller bearings, the chute rotates smoothly without slipping. The crank can be mounted to the ROPS of your tractor for easy access.
As an upgrade, we offer a 12-volt electric chute rotator and deflector option that comes complete with wiring harness and controls. If your tractor is equipped with hydraulic remotes, we also offer a hydraulic chute rotator/ deflector option for an additional charge.
Either the electric or hydraulic options can be purchased and installed later if needed.
The bolt-on, replaceable hardened steel cutting edge ensures easy replacement when necessary. While many competitors use softer, mild steel cutting edges that are welded in place, the Snowbear design allows for a cleaner scrape down to the pavement while remaining gentle on stone driveways.
Standard on all models, the 6-inch wide bolt-on, replaceable skid shoes are built to last and are easy to swap out when the time comes.
To light up your work area, we offer an optional high-intensity (1140 lumen) LED work light. This light features a die-cast aluminum housing, which doubles as a heat sink, and 6 LED bulbs totaling 18 watts, with a polycarbonate lens and stainless steel mounting hardware. The LED work light is designed to provide a 90-degree flood pattern, illuminating a wide area for better visibility during operation.
Snowbear snow blowers attach to any Category 1 or 2 three-point hitch system and are Category 1 quick hitch ready.
NOTE: A 1-3/8″ 6 spline slip clutch PTO shaft is included with every purchase.

Well worth the investment.
I cannot attest to shipping, as I live nearby I picked the blower up in person. Everyone I spoke to from the office staff to the warehouse crew was extremely friendly, responsive and answered every question I had.
The order process was flawless. I purchased the snowblower before a big was to hit near us. Normally it would take a few days to prep, but WoodMaxx called and said it was ready to be picked up the same day.
I can say the blower itself is great, extremely well built & can really move lake effect snow.
The only thing I would improve is related the Rotator/ Deflector. I’d like a way to add mechanical stops to the chute to limit rotation. Without stops the chute could easily be over rotated risking damage to the hoses/wiring (depending on kit), throwing snow at the operator or cab glass. I really do like the fact it has near 360 degree rotation, but for those who would like to limit it, there should be an option.
The best unadvertised feature about this snowblower is that it comes with an informal guarantee that it won’t snow much after purchasing. Which IMO is worth the price in itself as we have had one of the lightest winters on record.
I purchased this and a WoodMaxx roto-tiller in 2017 and have used them heavily every year. I absolutely love this snow blower, it has been wonderful on my 58 HP John Deere 4720. We have heavy Idaho snowstorms most years, complete with wind and drifting. Last year we had an unbelievable amount of snow, our front yard had 12 feet of snow at one point, some of it blown in from our driveway. Many days I was clearing our 300+ foot driveway in the morning and night just to be able to get our cars in and out. Some days I was dealing with 3-4 foot drifts, it was hard work but it was able to keep up. It does work best with two feet or less but you can get through 4 foot drifts if you are willing to work it; take the top 2 feet off then the bottom 2. For several years I was clearing our driveway, my parents and 4 neighbors and with 12-18″ of snow I could do all of them in less than an hour including our 300 foot and three 100-200 feet driveways, only one was less than 100 feet (we live in the country). One day I cleared 27 driveways after a big storm. Last year the local high school had me clear their track in March. That was a workout as there was 4 feet of hard-packed snow but it handled it.
Be aware that it is not infallible, you have to treat it right or you will have problems. Most of the problems have happened because of debris in the neighbors driveways and bad judgement on my part. After a couple of small logs went through the chute, I had to have the piece of metal next to the fan straightened. Foolish me did not keep the gearbox filled with oil and I ended up replacing some of the gears in it (my fault). I have burned up two PTO drivelines and dozens of shear pins have had to be replaced. Stay away from fence lines where stuff may be hiding. Because of how much I have to clear, I tend to drive faster than is recommended, slow down and your PTO drivelines will be fine. After clearing neighbors gravel driveways, the polyethylene liner is mostly broken but that hasn’t caused any issues. It helps if your handy or have a good neighbor like I do that has been able to make the necessary repairs. If there is wind, having an enclosed cab is a huge plus. Also the Hydraulic Chute Rotator has been another huge plus, I would not want the manual chute rotator as I am constantly adjusting the chute.
If you treat it right it will treat you right. I highly recommend this snow blower, I have been thrilled with it.
Had this 3 seasons although I haven’t put many hours on it since nature hasn’t cooperated. Well made and it can throw some serious snow. Paired to a TYM T394 with 29 PTO HP with hydraulic chute option (worth it). The design features I liked over other brands are the giant auger and high 2nd stage tip speed. All that for a good price. I’ve chewed through 4 ft deep drifts without issue. But there is one issue and I’m writing so others can learn from my experience.
If you study other 3pt snowblowers you’ll see a variety of feet designs. Some have feet near the business end of the snow blower, others closer to the tractor. Woodmaxx has them near the tractor. Pro: This allows the edge to drop down right to the pavement and remove maximum snow. That’s great if you’re on pavement. Con: If you’re on gravel, dirt or grass – it WILL dig in. (At least with my setup I can’t shorten the top link enough to prevent it, or I need to leave inches of snow) So, I installed three 4″ wide bolt-on edge tamers from R2 manufacturing. Learned about them from Tractor Time With Tim. (I don’t think there’s enough lip for the clamp-on variety to work.) These pads allows it to float on the ground and not dig in. Installation: the cutting edge is HARD and you will need a 1/2″ carbide bit to get through it. Cobalt bits won’t even scratch it. I had removed the edge to drill it and the holes didn’t line up that well during reassembly. If possible drill thru without removing it – although it’s tight with the auger in the way. Buy a short bit and a 90 deg drill should help.
Ordered SB 72 blower with hydraulic chute control. Received snowblower and Hydraulic controls in time frame that was estimated.
Snowblower was packed well and had a steel frame around. It did have some damage done because of freight company . Woodmaxx did send me the parts to fix trouble. When getting snowblower from freight company be sure and check everything and if something looks amiss make sure to enter note on freight paper.
Snow blower seems to be very well constructed and pretty easy to put together.
Had 3 snow storms that hit one after the other and high winds that created 2 to 4 foot drifts. Snowblower worked great and went through the snow with no problems. Hydraulic chute controls were definitely worth the money.
So far very happy with the purchase
I received my sb72 snowblower in the summer. It came in a timely manner and in good shape like new. well built. so now January of 24 got to use it. Tossed snow a good ways worked as it should. I’m sure they will sell a few more of these to my neighbors.
