WoodMaxx patented MX-Series wood chippers are proudly designed, engineered and manufactured in the USA at our Akron, NY facility. With a multi-million-dollar investment in the latest high-tech fabricating equipment to increase production, WoodMaxx MX-Series wood chippers are in high demand.
POW-R-TORQ™️️ is a trademarked and patented infeed system. This system is a combination of our patented hydrostatic pump motor, specially designed infeed roller, nitrogen filled gas springs, automatic belt tension device and American made A8 tool steel knives. Combined, these features create the most powerful, efficient and speed variable infeed system available on ANY wood chipper on the market today.
Hydrostatic drive systems have several differences and benefits over traditional hydraulic drive systems. Hydrostatic pumps exhibit variable displacement without the need for external devices such as flow control and flow diverter (proportioning) valves. This reduces the number of fittings, hoses, and amount of oil needed. Unlike hydraulic systems requiring several gallons of oil, our hydrostatic system only needs 2 quarts of motor oil (Why can’t I use synthetic oil in my chipper? Click here to find out) Hydrostatic technology has been around for decades and is used in some of the highest demanding and harshest mobile applications such bulldozers, trains, excavators, skid steers, and even ride on lawn mowers. Hydrostatic systems are very efficient, generate minimal heat, and are extremely precise, allowing for smooth infeed speed control from 1 ft./min to a full 75 ft./min. with full power through the entire speed range. Take a look below for more information on each of these key POW-R-TORQ™️️ features or watch a short video here.
The WoodMaxx MX-9900 requires a tractor with a category 1 or 2 three-point hitch and at least 25 HP at the PTO. Chipping capacity is directly related to horsepower and torque, therefore with 25 HP you can expect to chip 5″ hard wood and 7″ soft wood. With 50+ HP you can expect to chip any material up to 9″ in diameter with no trouble.
The WoodMaxx MX-9900 wood chipper is equipped with a USA-made hydraulic infeed motor. This high quality 200cc orbital motor offers high load bearing capacity, giving it the ability to withstand thousands of hours of rotational resistance, that comes with drawing large, dense material into the infeed bin. It also offers extremely high torque for maximum pulling efficiency.
WoodMaxx MX-9900 wood chippers are equipped with a 26.5″ dynamically balanced flywheel. This flywheel paired with specific engineering components, delivers 225 lbs. of energy to quickly and easily chip a variety of branches. We use a heavy gauge 1/4″ thick (American Standard A-36) structural steel plate to house the flywheel. This features a clam shell design, in which the entire top half of the housing hinges open, allowing for easy access to the flywheel and knives, so knives can be easily changed in as little as 10 minutes.
To allow the flywheel to run extremely true while adding a great deal of strength, the 2″ main shaft on the MX-9900 PTO wood chipper passes through the flywheel housing and is supported by two industrial flange bearings. Competing machines use a 1-3/4″ shaft in conjunction with two pillow block bearings, and the flywheel is cantilevered beyond these bearings. With this setup, there is a possibility of breaking a bearing housing if the machine jams.
WoodMaxx MX-series American Made wood chippers incorporate a series of precisely located ventilation holes in the flywheel chamber. This feature creates a strong vacuum that draws air into the flywheel chamber and in combination with the fan blades on the back of the flywheel forcefully ejects the wood chip s out of the chamber. This keeps the discharge chute clear and reduces the chances of a jam. The WoodMaxx patent pending hole pattern is specifically designed to bring the air into the chamber at the optimal volume and location.
This patented, 8.25″ diameter, octagonal shaped, commercial style infeed roller is an innovative design, made in the USA. Specially designed with chisel shaped, spaced teeth, it pulls material into the flywheel at speeds up to 75 ft. /min with ease. The spacing allows the complete down pressure of the high-tension gas springs to be focused on one chisel tooth at a time. This increases total down pressure and allows the roller to self-clean. These rollers, along with the high-tension gas springs aggressively bite into all types of material up to 9″, with or without leaves. Long or short needle pine and small vine type material are no problem for the MX-9900 PTO wood chipper.
WoodMaxx MX-series wood chippers are equipped with five extreme duty 5/8″ wide EDPM rubber cogged drive V-Belts that are made specifically for WoodMaxx. Cogged V-belts run cooler, and transfer more torque than plain smooth V-belts. Although the OEM belts are very high quality, if the need arises, the standard size BX belts allows you to purchase replacement v-belts at any auto parts store.
The hydraulic hose configuration for the WoodMaxx MX-9900 requires only two streamlined hydraulic hoses. Because of the POW-R-TORQ™ infeed system, we’re able to eliminate many of the components and hoses, traditional open hydraulic systems have. We also utilize standard JIC (joint industrial council) hose fittings that are rated for 5000 psi, so should you need to replace a hydraulic hose, maintenance will be effortless, and parts are easy to find.
The WoodMaxx MX-9900 wood chipper offers a larger 27″ wide x 18″ tall infeed opening that funnels down to 9″ x 9″ to easily accept those crooked branches. This is the largest infeed opening available of any PTO wood chipper in its class.
Safety is paramount on WoodMaxx wood chippers. Located on the top of the In-feed bin, the MX-9900 utilizes an easy to activate hydrostatic auto-feed stop safety bar to disengage the infeed roller in case of an emergency, or to clear the infeed bin if necessary. Simply pull the bar forward to increase the speed, and push it forward to decrease or reverse the In-feed speed and direction. The hydrostatic drive system is so refined that the In-feed speed is fully adjustable from 0-75 ft./min.
The 360-degree MX-9900 PTO wood chipper is equipped with a 360-degree swivel discharge chute. With easy two finger operation, we have incorporated a convenient handle that effortlessly allows you to swivel the discharge chute 360 degrees so that you can direct the chips into a trailer or the back of a pickup truck without having to move the entire machine. Simply push down on the handle and swing the chute, when you release the handle, a spring-loaded pin drops down to lock the chute into position. No tools required.
The WoodMaxx MX-series wood chipper utilizes high tension gas springs. These gas springs maintain the same tension throughout the entire range of motion. This feature also slows and dampens the downward motion of the infeed roller to prevent the infeed roller from slamming downward ultimately increasing the longevity of the components. These high tension gas springs force 175 lbs. of downward pressure that allows the teeth of the infeed roller to dig into the branches and ensure a smooth entry into the chipper head.
The hydrostatic pump belt tensioner is automatic on the MX-9900 wood chipper. This feature keeps consistent and correct pressure on the drive belt. If the drive belt is too tight, then excessive bearing and/or pump failure is likely. If it’s too loose, it will slip, resulting in loss of performance. This feature eliminates the need to adjust the belt, ensures that proper tension is achieved, and increases the longevity of the pump and bearings. It also saves you the hassle of constant adjustment.
The WoodMaxx MX-9900 American-made wood chipper is equipped with four USA made and offset, reversible dual edge knives installed. These knives are attached to the flywheel. Four knives, and they are offset so that with every 90 degrees of rotation, the knife is taking a slightly different cut of material. This is equivalent to using a serrated knife to cut bread instead of a straight knife. Ultimately, this feature allows for chipping large material without overworking your tractor. The reversible knives means that you get twice the work out of one set! Designed for extreme-duty – there is no better material than A-8 hardened tool steel for superior performance and life. Click here to learn how long your chipper knives will last.
Our MX-9900 PTO wood chipper features a swivel infeed bin, which allows for easy bed knife access and adjustment. Simply remove one bolt for bed knife maintenance. One (1) high quality (A8 tool steel), made in the USA bed knife is standard equipment on our MX-9900SS and MX-9900 wood chippers. This long-lasting, reversible bed knife is designed to last between 40-60 hours on each side, depending on wood species/type.
The WoodMaxx MX-9900 PTO Wood chipper attachment is the only MX-series chipper equipped with a fold up infeed bin. This feature allows the user to simply fold the In-feed bin upward for storage or transport.
All wood chippers will require some routine maintenance like adjusting the gap between the bed knife and the flywheel knives as they wear. This gap is essential to proper operation of the wood chipper. The infeed hopper on the WoodMaxx MX-9900 swings open to expose the bed knife, allowing the user to access the knife to make adjustments. This feature is exclusive to the WoodMaxx MX-9900 wood chipper. Simply remove 2 bolts and the hopper will swing open like a door. Other chippers require the user to crawl into the infeed hopper to change the bed knife or adjust the gap between the bed knife and the flywheel knives.
MX-series wood chippers are now equipped with a convenient tachometer/ hour meter. The tachometer allows the operator to see the actual RPM of the flywheel to ensure that the chipping head is running at the optimal recommended speed. Proper flywheel speed is important to develop the inertia required to chip hard material and evacuate the chamber effectively. The hour meter is helpful to ensure that proper maintenance intervals are kept in accordance with WoodMaxx recommendations. This all-weather meter is waterproof and weather tight.
MX-series PTO wood chippers will mount to any Category 1 or 2 three-point hitch attachment and is category 1 quick hitch ready.
NOTE: A shear bolt torque limited 29” Premium PTO shaft is included with the purchase of any WoodMaxx MX-series wood chipper. Shear bolts are replaceable with a 5/16-18″x 1 1/4″ grade 5 Hex bolt that is readily available at any hardware store.

Incredibly well built and engineered piece of machinery. I am powering it with an old 40hp Oliver 550 tractor. The feed system on it works incredibly well and has obviously been very well thought out and engineered. I have over 25 hours on it so far and have had absolutely ZERO problems with it what so ever. I just eats whatever you put in it with no jams. Been chipping mostly pine, poplar and red oak limbs.
My only gripe is that the owners manual is an extra option. Call me old fashioned but having to scan a QR code with my phone to set it up is off putting. I prefer information on paper.
Other than that I am incredibly happy with it.
Chipper works very well, better than expected! Running with a 43hp tractor. Doesn’t like bushy cedar trees.
I am totally impressed with the customer service and more importantly the product itself. It is very well made and in the few weeks since I reveived the MX-9900 I have chipped many trees clearing trails on our property. I have a Kubota L3800 and it doesn’t bog down or slow up with this chipper. You generally do get what you pay for. Yes, there are less expensive chippers out there… a lot of them but (I recommend) that you spend the money, spend it only once and you won’t be dissapointed. I’m a VERY happy customer and strongly recommend the Woodmax MX-9900.
I spent several hours reading and watching videos prior to deciding on this chipper. After narrowing it down to woodmaxx I still agonized over whether I needed a 9 inch chipper or not. I realized it was a bit more expensive than the smaller ones but I figured it was better to spend a little more initially than regret it later. How right I was. Although I haven’t actually put a 9 inch log through it yet the performance I have got from anything I have fed into this chipper has been nothing less than incredibly impressive. So far I have fed several branches 10 feet or more long, just get it started and walk away. By the time I get back with the next branch the chipper is waiting to do more work.
Overall I wouldn’t change a thing and expect this MX9900 to give me many years of dependable service
Just received the chipper 3 days ago and have only been able to put a few hours on it over the weekend, but everything has exceeded expectations so far (and expectations were fairly high). Delivery, unboxing, and set-up was a snap (just fill with 10w-40, run it for a few minutes, top up with 10w-40, few shots of grease on the PTO and you’re good to go).
Well-built. No vibration. Running with a 35hp Kubota Grand. Even with this being lower on the horsepower spectrum, there were zero issues chipping 8″ diameter doug fir.
I fed this thing relentlessly for the few hours I used it. It never broke a sweat. It took less than 1 hour to fully chip a pile that would have taken me 3 times as long to prep and burn (would have been a smoky fire too considering how wet everything was).
The infeed roller really surprised me. I thought for sure I would have to prune a few branches of the widest hazelnut and alder saplings, but the worst of em merely required a bit of back-and-forth finessing.
I’ve been around a few high dollar commercial units, and this really does get you 80% there for 20% of the price, which is an absolutely astonishing value proposition. Communication and documentation from Woodmaxx was top notch.
Last but not least: I agonized over the 8800 vs 9900 decision. 1 inch for a thousand bucks?! But I absolutely think the 9900 was the right call. When you’re trying to cram wide branches and saplings in, every inch matters. Plus, the bigger flywheel is peace of mind when it comes to eating the big stuff. Of course I can’t offer side-by-side objective feedback. I can only say I’m glad I got the biggest one.
